Metodologia

The methodology used and the activities we do online are exactly the same as those used in face to face classes. One of the advantages of this learning mode is the travelling time saved and the flexibility of being able to do the class from any location, perhaps even while on a business trip or in another country. All materials are sent to the student by email both before and after each class. This method of learning is convenient, dynamic and fun. A typical class would include 70%-80% speaking blended with stimulating language exercises and input. The aim is to cater for the range of needs of each student, depending on the level, the different areas of interest and the varying amounts of time available to study. I use flexible and authentic materials to help meet the needs and I give suggestions on how to study between classes.

Percorso

I'm an American English teacher who has been teaching English for over 12 years and living abroad in Italy, Rome. Our first short session will be free-of-charge because I would like to get to know you and your requirements before we start. I teach conversation classes, IELTS and TOEFl preparation classes and Grammar classes. My classes always have a very dynamic and effective approach. They aim to improve the four communicative skills (speaking, listening, writing and reading) with a special reinforcement of the conversational part.

Lorenzo is really smart, an upper intermediate student who really wants to learn. We have a lot to improve and I think we will make a great team. We will focus on vocabulary and grammar and also some listening exercises. Our class was super fun and we talked a lot.

Cosa ti ha fatto appassionare a questa lingua? Origini familiari, interesse personale, un insegnante ispirante o magari un grande amore?

Virginia — I am American, born in New York, so English is not only my first language but also part of my life.
I absolutely love being a teacher and believe it is a gift to be able to teach others and learn more about their lives and cultures. I also speak many different languages as Spanish, Italian and Portuguese, so I truly understand the difficulties that come with learning a new language and in that way I put myself in my student's shoes and understand their frustrations and challenges.

Quale personaggio, storico o inventato, secondo te rappresenta in pieno la cultura legata a questa lingua?

Virginia — This is a very tricky question, but I love the character from the musical The Sound of Music, Fraulein Maria. The character is so passionate in everything she does, with heart and soul, and that is and has always been a great inspiration to me. She sings, she teaches, she leads and helps unite a family that was broken in so many ways. Everything is does is magical and she is able to change lives in a positive way.

Virginia — When speaking of American traditions, Thanksgiving always comes to my mind. It's a fantastic tradition as it unites families, everybody together at the table, sharing what they feel thankful for and appreciating their blessings in life. It's so beautiful and a wonderful tradition I hope we keep forever.

Virginia — Phrasal verbs are definitely a challenge as they change constantly and you have to keep yourself updated. I would also mention the Present Perfect and the Past Perfect as they are not common in other languages.

Virginia — I can't recall a funny experience during a class but I guarantee lots of laughs and giggles throughout classes as we share experiences and talk about life.

Virginia — I have traveled around most of the world, and I love knowing new cultures, people, traditions and especially food. I love cooking, learning new recipes, and eating in general. I am also a singer and song writer and love the creative process. Traveling inspires me and teaching is one of the greatest passions in my life. I am truly fortunate to work with what I love.

Virginia — I would say it is the capability of understanding the challenges that come with learning a new language. My classes are always well prepared and tailor made for each and every student because everybody has different likes and needs. I also believe that the love I have for my language and teaching makes all the difference.
