Riguardo Ivan
I’m an architect and designer with a background in architecture, visual arts and hands-on making. I studied architecture at UACEG in Sofia and also studied at Politecnico di Milano. I have worked in international architecture studios in Portugal and have experience with architectural competitions, visualization, scenography, fabrication and physical model making.
I have also taught architecture at university, where I worked with students on their projects and helped them develop their own ideas. For me, teaching is not about giving someone the “right” answer. I enjoy the process of looking at a project together, asking the right questions and finding what is interesting in the student’s own idea.
I’m particularly interested in the relationship between space, form, material and meaning. I like moving between thinking and making — from a rough sketch or abstract model to a more developed architectural idea.
I’m an open and curious person, and I enjoy working with people who are willing to experiment, question things and learn by doing. I teach in English and I’m currently improving my Italian.

My teaching approach is based on understanding the student’s own ideas and helping them develop them rather than imposing a predefined method. I have experience teaching architecture at university level, working with students on concept development, spatial thinking, composition, representation and architectural projects.
A particular part of my approach is working with conceptual models. Through physical or digital models, we can extract characteristics from a site or context, translate a programme or theme into spatial form, or explore a philosophical idea through experimental shapes. The model becomes a tool for discovering the concept while simultaneously studying form, morphology, materiality and space.
Lessons are adapted to each student’s level and goals. Depending on the subject, we can develop a project step by step, explore a concept, improve drawings and presentations, or learn practical tools such as Rhino, Grasshopper, Photoshop, Illustrator and After Effects.
I combine short explanations with practical exercises and direct work on the student’s own projects. I encourage experimentation, discussion and independent thinking, while providing clear technical guidance when needed.
The lessons are suitable for architecture and design students, beginners and intermediate users, Erasmus and international students, as well as anyone who wants to strengthen their portfolio or develop their architectural and visual skills. Lessons can be conducted in English.
