my method of teaching is first of all having a short conversation to know the level of language, after determining I continue on the base of the convenience of the student. i.e., if they have a specific topic to talk about, I do consider them. each lesson is considered to be one hour half on grammar and half on conversation. By time we change the concept slightly to the upgraded level.
