Riguardo Salvatore
I began learning Italian in 2018 as a passion project to learn about the country my great-grandparents immigrated from. Learning the language became fun and opened my mind in ways I did not expect, so much so that I wanted to do it again and I learned French. As a native English speaker, I recognize the unfair advantage that we have since, more often than not, we do not need to learn a foreign language to improve our life quality. However, learning Italian and French has greatly improved my life and while painful, it has had many moments of joy. The combination of these to give me a sense of responsibility to share English to help those who want it, and to turn it into a pleasant experience of discovery and growth, and not something that feels forced or arduous as it has been in school for many people. Additionally, tutoring and teaching have been two of my favorite jobs as a university student. As a precarious PhD student is a great way to financially support myself, doing something I love, while helping great people expand their life opportunities and increase their confidence while employing the international language,

I'm here to help! I have over 6 years of experience in tutoring in mathematics and physics, and 2 years of experience in teaching English. I have helped adults over the age of 50, university students between the ages of 18-30, young professionals in need of passing standardized exams (similar to TOEFL), as well as children between the ages of 8-10 and teenagers (14-17). I learned French and Italian outside of school and therefore have many general language learning techniques that I can share for specific problems. Additionally, I know how certain concepts in English relate to Italian. I have methods to practice for: 1. Spontaneity and increased vocabulary 2. Increased reading comprehension 3. Public speaking 4. Oral comprehension 5. Games that encourage children (and adults) to speak more 6. Accent training Since I speak Italian (and French) I can help someone with zero experience in English. Since I am an avid language learner myself and a native English speaker, I can help advanced students or adults with professional requirements to improve their English. Logistically, often I meet with students on Google Meets and we have a shared Google Drive to track all of our study materials and notes. If we are both in Rome, we can sometimes have in-person lessons. With high-energy children, I would prefer to have the lessons in person more often than online.
