Riguardo Jessica
I am a university student from New Zealand currently studying Art History and Classical Studies at the University of Auckland, and I am spending six months in Bologna as an exchange student. I have always been curious about languages, history, art and different cultures, and I love sharing that curiosity with other people.
Throughout my studies, I have developed a particular passion for understanding how languages, societies and cultures have developed over time. I study both modern and ancient languages, including French, Italian, Latin and Ancient Greek, which has given me a strong appreciation for language and communication from different perspectives.
I want to share my knowledge because I genuinely enjoy helping other people understand something that may initially seem difficult or confusing. I especially love those moments when a concept suddenly “clicks” for someone. Rather than simply giving students information to memorise, I want to help them become curious, confident and comfortable asking questions.
I am particularly interested in working with students who want to improve their English, whether that means becoming more confident in conversation, strengthening their grammar or developing their writing skills. I would also love to share my enthusiasm for art history, history and classical studies with students who are interested in these subjects.
As someone who is currently living abroad and learning a new language myself, I understand how intimidating it can be to communicate in another language. I hope to create a relaxed and encouraging environment where students feel comfortable making mistakes, asking questions and gradually building their confidence.

My teaching approach is friendly, flexible and adapted to each student’s individual goals, level and learning style. I believe lessons are most effective when students understand not only what they are learning, but also why it works.
I currently live in Bologna as an exchange student, and my lessons are conducted in English. I am still learning Italian myself, so I am not able to teach through Italian. For this reason, my lessons are particularly suited to students who already have around an A2–B1 level of English or above and can communicate at least partially in English. This also allows students to benefit from a more immersive English-speaking environment.
For English lessons, I can help with grammar, vocabulary, reading, writing, pronunciation and conversation. My background studying Latin and Ancient Greek has given me a strong understanding of grammar, sentence structure and how languages work, which I use to explain difficult concepts clearly and practically.
For humanities subjects, I can help students develop their understanding of history, art history and classical studies, as well as improve essay writing, research and analytical skills. As a university student studying Art History and Classical Studies, I am particularly passionate about helping students connect ideas rather than simply memorising information.
A typical lesson would begin by identifying what the student would like to work on, followed by an explanation of the relevant concepts and guided practice. I like to use examples, questions and discussion to make sure the student genuinely understands the material. Lessons can also be adapted around upcoming assignments, tests or specific areas the student finds challenging.
I am happy to work with teenagers and adults, from A2–B1 level through to advanced students. I can also tailor lessons for students who simply want to become more confident using English in everyday conversation.
