I am a retired professor from the University of Washington. My primary focus was German Studies and Global Literary Studies. My publications include two monographs and more than 25 essays. I recently read that many students regarded me as "mad genius." I confess to being (semi-) mad, but I make no claims of being a genius. lol

My approach is the communicative method. Emphasis is on speaking. Less emphasis is placed on perfect grammar--although certainly important--and more on helping you find ways to make yourself clear and communicate readily with friends, associates, and strangers. Many lessons are structured around a reading prepared in advance. All lessons begin with conversing about the every-day. The mixture allows students to practice and improve all four language skills: reading, writing, listening, speaking.
