Riguardo Maille

I'm in my late twenties, originally from Ireland, and I moved to Italy less than a year ago. Honestly? It's been one of the most exciting and humbling experiences of my life. I arrived with barely any Italian, and every day is still a new challenge — navigating the language, the culture, the bureaucracy, all of it.

That experience has made me a much better English teacher than I ever expected. Because right now, I am a language learner. I know what it feels like to sit across from a native speaker and go completely blank. I know the frustration of understanding something perfectly in your head but not being able to get the words out. And I know the joy when something finally clicks.

I bring all of that into my lessons. I'm not here to judge your mistakes — I'm making my own every single day in Italian. What I am here to do is create a space where you feel comfortable enough to speak, make errors, laugh about them, and keep going.

Outside of teaching and learning Italian, I'm passionate about travel, content creation, and exploring everything Italy has to offer — which gives us plenty to talk about in our lessons.

I'd love to help you on your English journey, just as I'm on my own language journey here in Italy. Let's learn together

My approach to teaching English

I believe the fastest way to learn a language is to actually use it — from the very first lesson. As a TEFL-certified native speaker from Ireland, my teaching is built entirely around conversation and real communication, not memorisation or repetition of grammar rules.

My teaching method

I use a communicative language teaching approach, which means lessons are driven by speaking and listening rather than textbooks. I focus on helping you express yourself naturally and fluently, while gently correcting errors in a way that builds your confidence rather than knocking it. I adapt my language to your level — speaking slowly and clearly with beginners, and challenging more advanced students with natural, fast-paced Irish and British English.

What a typical lesson looks like

Every lesson begins with a short warm-up conversation — a few minutes of free talking about your day, the news, or anything on your mind. This gets you comfortable and loosens up your English before we move into the main focus of the session.

From there, we work on a topic or scenario chosen around your goals. This might be practising for a job interview, discussing a film or article you've read, working through a real-life situation like booking a hotel or calling a doctor, or simply having a guided conversation on a topic you're passionate about. I take notes during our sessions and at the end I give you personalised feedback — key vocabulary, phrases to remember, and corrections to work on before next time.

Who are my lessons for?

My lessons are suitable for absolutely all levels — from complete beginners who have never spoken English before, right through to advanced speakers who want to polish their fluency, reduce their accent, or feel more confident in professional settings. I also work with all ages, from teenagers preparing for school exams to adults who need English for work, travel, or everyday life living in an English-speaking environment.

There are no prerequisites. You don't need any prior knowledge, any specific materials, or any experience with online lessons. All you need is a willingness to speak and an internet connection.

What makes my lessons different

Having moved to Italy myself, I know first-hand how intimidating it is to speak a foreign language in real life. That experience shapes the way I teach — I am endlessly patient, I never make students feel embarrassed for making mistakes, and I genuinely celebrate every bit of progress. Mistakes are how we learn, and my classroom is a safe, relaxed space where you are free to try, fail, and improve.
