I am an ardent follower of the RAISE approach.

1. Rapport-building: I personally believe that making a student comfortable during a lesson is teaching half done. This can only be achieved when one attempts to create a strong professional connection with the students.

2. Assessment of Prior Knowledge: Tutoring is enabling the students to apply their knowledge and solve complex problems. In this process, the assessment of Prior Knowledge plays a vital role. Simple questions like what do you know about this problem? Which concept do you think this problem is related to? Can you explain this concept briefly? gives a lot of knowledge about their understanding of a specific concept and their knowledge gaps.

3. Individualized instructions: After assessing a student's prior knowledge, one can figure out the parts where a student actually needs help and step in to start filling those gaps.

4. Summarize Learning: Oral summarization not only helps the students to imprint what they learned into their minds, but also improves student's ability in communicating ideas.

5. Encouragement: I think encouraging students is the best way to acknowledge their effort, to let them know that they are on the right path and to boost their confidence.
